Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse-Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him.

This is the first book of the Olympians series. Percy (Perseus) Jackson is a 12-year old boy with dyslexia and a magnet for ‘problems’. After changing 6 six schools in the last 6 years, he now is at Yancy Academy. Here he is best friends with Grover and is encouraged by his Latin teacher Mr. Brunner. After he is being attacked by his math teacher, everything changes. He finds out that he is a half-blood: half human and half God. Grover is really a satyr that was watching out for him while Mr. Brunner is a centaur named Chiron. At Camp Half-Blood he finds out that he is the son of Poseidon. When the lightning bolt of Zeus goes missing, Percy goes on a quest with Grover and Annabeth, another half-blood and daughter of Athena, to find it. Along their way they have to fight Furies, Medusa, Ares, a special hotel, Hades, and the Underworld creatures. At the end they succeed and bring the lightning bolt back to Zeus.

“Suspecting and knowing are not the same”

It has taken me quite some time before I started reading this book. I already saw the movie, which kind of ruined some of the story, but I still really enjoyed the book. The characters and the whole world is described nicely and the dialogues are filled with mystery and humor. It is a book full of adventure, mystery, and friendship. The combination of old myths and Greek mythology with adventure gives a book that is hard to put down. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
